Location: A66 Penruddock

At approximately 16:15 on the 6th June 2016, a cyclist was involved in a collision with a passing van whilst cycling along the A66 west of Penrith near Penruddock. The A66 was closed by the Police for three hours during and after the incident to allow for their investigations.
The patient sustained very serious life threatening injuries and was attended to by two BASICS NW (BEEP Fund) Doctors, Paramedics from the North West Ambulance Service and the joint Doctor/Paramedic Team from the Pride of Cumbria, Great North Air Ambulance Service. The patient was placed in a medically induced coma, and stabilised at the scene before being flown to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle, where his condition is still described as critical.
