In an emergency always call 999

Location: Manchester Evening News Arena
Callsign: Various
Date: 22nd May 2017

Just before 22:35 emergency services were called to reports of an explosion at the MEN Arena.  Very quickly it became apparent that this was a major incident with many injured members of the public and as such a multi-agency response was launched. At approximately 23:00 the North West Ambulance Service mobilised several of the BASICS North West responding doctors to request their services at the scene.  This included members from the Penrith based BEEP Fund, and the more local CSI BASICS.

During their time on scene they assisted in treating as many patients as possible working alongside the Hazardous Area Response Team and paramedics from the North West Ambulance Service.  Most of our team did not leave scene until the very end of the incident with our Penrith based colleagues returning home at 05:30.

Many more of our responding doctors were actually on duty in their respective hospitals and helped treat the patients as they arrived from the scene.

On behalf of all those in BASICS North West our deepest heartfelt sympathies go out to all the families who have lost a loved one, or whose family member is currently injured.
